Note: This exemption does not apply to parents who are under 20 and who do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent. These parents are mandatory. *This exemption may only be given once in a lifetime. |

TANF
Exceptions:
DFCS has made a decision not to work with the following parents at this time; although they are mandatory, a referral (Form 4) will not be completed.

Student enrolled at least half time in a recognized school, training program, or institution of higher learning (see section 3245 of the policy manual for the definition of a student) |
Caretaker of a dependent child under 6 (child does not have to be a member of the AU or live in the home as long as care is received in the AU's home) | |
Caretaker needed on a continuous basis to care for another individual due to mental or physical impairment (impaired individual does not need to be AU member or live in the home) | |
A person is physically
or mentally incapacitated if one of the following descriptions applies.

Person is working (includes self-employment) an average of 30 hours a week, or earning weekly the equivalent of 30 hours at minimum wage | |
Seasonal farm worker who is under contract to begin work within 30 days | |
VISTA volunteer | |
Participant in a drug/alcohol treatment center | |
Receiving or applied for UCB | |
Remember, an individual who is referred for TANF work requirements is considered to have met FS work requirements and must be be coded as "exempt for FS as complying with TANF." | |
A refugee student participating in a recognized refugee educational/training program at least half-time. |
